Position Overview
The Health and Safety Advisor will play a key role in ensuring the health, safety, and compliance of T&M Bowser Solutions’ operations. Operating as a self-starter, they will manage their own workload and travel between our projects up and down the UK, from London to Oxfordshire to the Midlands. This role requires a proactive and risk-based approach to health, safety, quality, and environmental management, offering advice, conducting audits, provision of training and driving improvements to maintain and exceed industry standards.

Location: Hybrid – Work from home, various highways/construction sites across the UK, and two days per month at our head office in Sussex.
Main Responsibilities
Risk Assessment and Management
- Develop and review risk assessments to ensure safe operations.
- Provide advice on mitigating risks in alignment with business goals.
Safety Tours and Inspections
- Attend and lead safety tours across sites.
- Carry out detailed inspections to identify and address hazards
Site Audits
- Conduct regular and thorough audits to ensure compliance with safety standards and legislation.
Training and Awareness
- Organise and deliver health and safety training and awareness initiatives.
- Ensure all staff are equipped with knowledge to operate safely and in compliance.
Incident Investigation and Reporting
- Investigate incidents thoroughly to identify root causes.
- Produce clear and actionable reports to prevent recurrence
Compliance Monitoring
- Ensure adherence to ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 standards
- Monitor and ensure compliance with relevant legislation
Emergency Preparedness
- Develop and test emergency response plans.
- Conduct drills to ensure preparedness across teams.
Quality Assurance
- Support quality management systems by ensuring robust processes and documentation are in place.
- Assist in the identification and resolution of non-conformities and continual improvement initiatives.
Environmental Management
- Promote sustainable practices and ensure compliance with environmental standards.
- Assist in implementing carbon reduction and other sustainability initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- NEBOSH National General and/or NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
- Experience in the civil engineering or construction sectors.
- Two years’ relevant experience in a health and safety advisory role.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 standards.
- A minimum membership level of Tech IOSH is required, with the expectation that candidates are actively working towards Cert IOSH. However, it is desirable for candidates to already hold Cert IOSH and be actively progressing towards Chartered CMIOSH status.
Desirable:
- NEBOSH Diploma
- NVQ Level 5, 6or 7 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice.
- Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certification.
- CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme
- Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work qualification.
- Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card for senior H&S roles.
- Advanced training in accident investigation techniques.
- Mental Health First Aid.

Experience
- Proven experience, in-depth knowledge, and expertise in civil engineering, construction, or other safety-critical environments.
- Implementing and maintaining health and safety management systems.
- Overseeing large or multi-site operations.
- Delivering toolbox talks, inductions, and short health and safety training sessions.
- Development of fire safety plans, business continuity strategies, and emergency response plans.
- Working with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and best practices.
- Experience with environmental management, carbon reduction, and sustainability initiatives.
Location and Travel
This role involve significant travel across the UK, primarily focusing on projects between London Euston and Birmingham. Additionally, at least two days per month are required to be spent at our head office in Sussex, with all accommodation and expenses covered. A willingness to travel and stay overnight when necessary is essential, and a company vehicle will be provided.
